Long night
Late nights have their consequences. The subway shuts down at 11 p.m. in Beijing. And the buses shortly after. Your only alternative after that is a taxi.
The problem is that today happened to be Chinese Valentine's Day ... go figure. Plus the eve of the opening ceremonies of the Olympic Games. Sol and I waited for almost 2 hours before our Mandarin-speaking friend convinced a guy in the taxi stopped at a red light to share his ride.
On top of that, the government has enacted a law only allowing private cars ending in an odd/even number to drive on separate days. Thus increasing the total number of people with out transportation. I have a feeling this will be a big concern once the games begin tomorrow.
